About Me
Carly Chan is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the State of California.
I am originally from the East Coast, and spent several years traveling and working around the country prior to finding myself in what I like to call a “quarter life crisis.” I was newly single and back in my mom’s basement in rural Appalachia. I found myself asking, “who am I and where am I going?” I took advantage of this “rock bottom” moment to go back to grad school and pursue my lifelong dream of being a mental health therapist. My journey is evidence of the power of life transitions, and our ability to use challenges to propel us forward to living our best lives.
Since 2010, I have served individuals and families across the lifespan through home-based, outpatient, and residential programs. I have worked and lived in the Washington, DC, Baltimore, Maryland, Austin, Texas, and Los Angeles, California metro areas. I am LGBTQIA2s+ affirmative, a sex positive feminist, and use a holistic, trauma-informed approach. I have trained in a variety of approaches and aim to honor your vulnerability in seeking treatment by making it bespoke-tailored to you.
When I’m not therapizing, you can catch me outside, how bout that? But seriously, I love hiking, yoga, cooking, music, reading, and knitting. I am also mom to two little ones who continue to challenge me to grow every day.
All this being said, I hope this gives you a little sense of who you will be working with. I look forward to getting to know you and learning how I can support you on your journey!
I’ve trained in:
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)
Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT)
Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT)
Trauma-focused CBT, CBT for Eating Disorders, CBT for Insomnia
